EFFECT OF TRANSFER FILE SIZE ON TCP-ADaLR PERFORMANCE: A SIMULATION STUDY
نویسنده
چکیده
Large file transfers have become common with the increasing demand for bandwidth-intensive Internet applications. The transmission control protocol with adaptive delay and loss response algorithm (TCPADaLR) was proposed to improve TCP performance in the presence of large propagation delays and error losses. In this paper, we analyze the effect of transfer file size on the TCP-ADaLR performance in networks with large propagation delays. We employ the file transport protocol (FTP) file download application to evaluate TCP-ADaLR performance for varying file sizes using. We compare the performance of TCP-ADaLR with TCP NewReno and TCP SACK. Simulation results show that TCP-ADaLR mechanism improves TCP performance in cases of large file transfers in lossless networks with large propagation delays. When the file size is larger than 50 MB, TCPADaLR improves TCP throughput while the throughput of the TCP NewReno and TCP SACK connections remain unchanged. Furthermore, when transfer file size is 500 MB TCP-ADaLR throughput increases up to 75 % compared to TCP NewReno and TCP SACK.

OPNET Model of TCP with adaptive delay and loss response for broadband GEO satellite networks
Transmission control protocol (TCP) provides reliable transport services for Internet applications. Broadband geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellite networks play an important role in providing Internet access and network connectivity. They are characterized by long propagation delays and high bit error rates, which negatively affect TCP performance. We proposed a modification of TCP named T...
متن کاملDemonstration of the Congestion Control Algorithms Implemented by TCP
In this paper, we have set up a network in which the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is its end-to-end transmission protocol. We have analyzed the congestion window size with different methods. The purpose of this study is to examine the congestion control algorithms implemented by TCP. The article presents a number of scenarios to examine these algorithms. We have tested the scenarios for ...
متن کاملThe Effect of the Initial Window Size and Limited Transmit Algorithm on the Transient Behavior of TCP Transfers
We study the impact of the modifications proposed for TCP in the context of short file transfers. The two most important proposals are the increment of the initial window size (IW) [3] and the Limited Transmit algorithm (LT) [1]. We analyze analytically and by simulations the effect of these proposals on the TCP latency. We demonstrate that the LT proposal reduces the TCP latency similarly to t...
متن کاملOn the Performance of Transport Protocols Over ATM Networks
The performance of file transfer applications running over an ATM infrastructure investigated, taking into account both the impact of the ATM and AAL layer protocols and the features of the adopted transport protocol. Two transport protocols in particular are considered: TCP and XTP. The two transport protocols have quite different characteristics: while TCP is a window-based protocol, XTP is r...
متن کاملOn TCP-Friendly Video Transfer with Consideration on Application-Level QoS
When both TCP and UDP sessions co-exist in the Internet, the performance of TCP sessions easily deteriorate because of congestion incurred by UDP sessions of real-time multimedia applications. In this paper, we extend the TCP-friendly rate control protocol which originally pursuits the fair-share of link bandwidth among TCP and non-TCP sessions. With our proposed method, the achievable applicat...
